Description
Our company's mission statement is "Moving smallholder farmers out of poverty and into the middle class."
Opportunity
There?s two opportunities and challenges that keep me up at night, and would be great to address through this program. First opportunity is our local and regional (Pan-African) operational expansion which brings about decentralized empowerment and/or centralized headquarters control dynamics. We plan on 4 countries by 2025 with our Source Model. Second opportunity is introducing a Field Supervisor Franchise model within Source, a first of its kind that will help us scale quicker. As for challenges, the first one is the cross-company change management as we launch our Digital Platform, moving us from brick and mortar to Agtech. On April 1, 2021 we were awarded a EUR 1m grant to build a robust digital platform that will directly connect food companies to farmers, and maintain upmost transparency and traceability. Second challenge is leveraging our work to influence government policies, improving industry collaboration, data sharing, and advocacy that ultimately leads to better service for our farmers. Covid has delayed our regional expansion locally and in Malawi, our Franchise model progress and policy advocacy since all these activities are personal engagement heavy. Contrarily, Covid has accelerated our digital platform build as funders see value in Agtech due to the pandemic food crisis.
